Welcome to your “home-away-from-home”
For 44 years, Ronald McDonald House Charities© of Alabama (RMHCA) has provided a “home-away-from-home” for critically ill children and their families seeking medical care in the Birmingham area hospitals. We understand that families come to our House exhausted, stressed, fearing the unknown in a new city, and financially drained from mounting medical bills. Our team is here to help.
At our House, we provide many of the amenities of a hotel, at a fraction of the cost. And we provide so much more than a hotel by meeting the unique needs of the families working to care for their critically ill children. We surround our families with love and support from our giving volunteers, from our caring staff and from other guest families who understand what you’re going through. We also provide home-cooked meals, indoor and outdoor play areas, laundry facilities, WiFi, and much more, so that you can concentrate on what is most important — your child.
Over the course of your stay at RMHCA, there will be a number of family activities and events put on in an effort to provide you with fun and enriching experiences. There are House Activities like fun game nights to provide a temporary relief of stress, Personal Development Activities such as Financial Counseling and Support Activities such as L.I.F.E. classes to enable you to better copy and manage during this difficult time in your life.
Here at RMHCA, you will be provided with linens, towels, cleaning supplies, basic toiletries, food staples, and internet access, but we recommend you bring any additional personal items or food needs. After all, this is a “home-away-from-home” and we encourage you to bring anything that will help make the Ronald McDonald House feel like one for you!
While we hope that RMHCA provides you with a comfortable and pleasant atmosphere, in order to keep it running at a superior level of cleanliness and efficiency there are a few rules and guidelines in place. We ask that all families clean up after themselves in all common areas as well as follow the rules and regulations that will be explained to you upon your arrival. For your convenience, we are staffed 24 hours a day 7 days a week with Family Care Specialist in addition to nightly onsite security guards. Visitors must sign in and out of the House at the front desk and to only visit between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Please refer to our FAQ page for additional information.
RMHCA is committed to enhancing the lives of children and their families. Over the course of your stay here, we hope that you find both RMHCA and the people surrounding you to be both encouraging and uplifting. We look forward to meeting you and making your stay as pleasant as possible.
