Hope in Healing Together
The Ronald McDonald House is key to the family centered care offered by local hospitals. Birmingham is fortunate to be home to Children’s of Alabama, the third largest pediatric medical facility in the country, as well as the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Hospital, UAB Medicine, and other area hospitals. Pediatric patients and families are drawn to Birmingham regionally and nationally for destination medical treatment programs. We need your help to keep families close when it matters most!
Our current 41 guest suite House opened in 2007 one block from Children’s of Alabama & UAB, but it’s not enough. With your help, we plan to add a new 28,543-square-foot wing that will almost double our occupancy and reduce the number of families on the waiting list.
On average, we have 12 families waiting each night for one of our rooms. The waiting list skyrocketed to as many as 55 families during the summer of 2015.
With your help …
- We’re adding 33 guest suites with laundries and family living rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors.
- A new family center with a game room and family living rooms for more intimate family time together will be included in the renovations.
- A volunteer kitchen will be added for volunteers to prepare meals. A larger dining room and more food lockers will accommodate increased occupancy.
- Plus a new meeting & activity center which will allow for more family programs including educational classes, crafts and other events to take place.
Please give to help more families – With your help, we could break ground in early 2017, and the new Wing could open by year end of 2017. We need your support to reach our goal of $7.5 million!
Thanks to our generous co-founder, Max Cooper, each gift will be matched up to $500,000! Give today and have your gift matched in full.

We have met our goal of $7.5 million, but as is inevitable in a capital project of this scope, further opportunities to better serve our families come to light that exceed the initial budget. We continue to raise funds to support opportunities like a new and improved playground, an expanded interior playground, and furnishings for the guest rooms. We know there are several donors who have yet to make a pledge that want to be a part of keeping families together at the Ronald McDonald House.
If you have any questions about the expansion or would like to talk to someone about your gift, please contact Kathy Robson, Director of Development at (205) 638-7258 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama qualifies as a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. Contributions are tax deductible as provided by law. Gifts of $1,000 or more will be recognized on the Campaign Donor Wall. Pledges may be made and paid over three to five years. Your investment in RMHCA will allow more families who need our community of hope, comfort and empathy to stay together and focus on the health and well-being of their children.
